Renovation Altea La Vella

For this project, we were asked to renovate a large part of the house, including several of the outdoor areas.

The clients wanted to improve and modernise the property, but at the same time keep the character and original feel of the house. Rather than replacing everything with new materials, we looked at which existing elements were worth keeping and restoring. The aim was to combine the old and the new in a way that still felt natural.

One of the main parts of the project was the complete renovation of the terrace. This included structural work as well as installing new 90 × 90 cm tiles. We also replaced all the windows in the house. The original wooden windows with single glazing were replaced with new wooden frames with double glazing and solar-control film, improving both comfort and energy performance while keeping the look of wooden windows.

Inside the house, we completely renovated the bathroom and renewed the plasterwork and paintwork throughout the property. We also repaired various damaged and uneven areas of the exterior walls before giving them a new finish.

At the same time, we made a conscious decision to keep a number of the original features. The original Valencian doors were stripped of their old layers of paint and refinished with a new lacquer. The existing stair tiles were repaired, with damaged and broken tiles replaced where necessary. Throughout the house, existing tiled areas were repaired, regrouted or replaced where needed.

The wooden elements inside the property were also given a new coat of lacquer, bringing them back into good condition without replacing them.

This approach allowed us to make the house more comfortable and up to date while keeping many of the details that give it its character. The result is a renovation where the newer work fits in with what was already there, rather than taking it over.

The renovation will continue in a next phase. The interior floors and walls will be retiled and a completely new kitchen will be installed, continuing the same balance between the original character of the house and the new finishes.
