Custom pergolas in Benissa Costa
We built three pergolas for this recently renovated home.
The clients knew quite well what they were looking for. They wanted the pergolas to match the house and keep the overall look clean and modern.
The main terrace required a different approach. During the renovation, concrete columns had already been built, so the pergola had to fit in with what was already there. We designed the wooden structure around these existing columns.
Keeping the connections hidden was an important part of the job. We used dovetail joints so that the beams could be connected without visible metal brackets. As a result, there are no metal plates or fixings in sight, leaving only clean timber lines. This makes a big difference to the final look.
For the construction, we used kiln-dried and planed Douglas timber throughout. Once the pergolas were finished, the wood was stained in the colour chosen by the clients. We also used a stain with UV protection to help reduce discolouration from the sun.
All three pergolas were finished with reed on top. Apart from providing more shade, it also softens the look of the timber and adds a more natural feel. On the main terrace, polycarbonate sheets were added underneath to keep the area dry when it rains.
We also fitted two outdoor fans. The cables were routed into the timber rather than being left visible, which helped keep the finished structure neat.
Three different pergolas, built specifically for this property and designed around the clients’ wishes and the existing architecture of the house. We are very happy with the end result.
